Survey Sees Shift to Passwordless Authentication Accelerating - Security Boulevard

Top benefits of passwordless authentication included reducing the need for non-passwordless MFA offerings (50%), reducing the need for SSO (48%), reduction in support desk tickets (47%), reducing the need for privileged access management (46%), and streamlined onboarding/offboarding employees (42%).

I’m excited to see strong growth in eliminating passwords but I’d caution against thinking of it as a replacement to SSO or privileged access management and I’m not convinced in how it can streamline offboarding without additional support products.

SSO and passwordless can coexist effectively, giving businesses a central control point to ensure authentication and authorization policies are being adhered to. SSO is also a common touch point for onboarding and offboarding.

Passwordless - especially Passkeys - should replace passwords wherever possible as quickly as possible, but SSO has not lost its importance, and is also a good place to start with Passkeys!
